Notes about the Ingredients:
Here is what is cool about this product. For one they are USDA certified. So, that alone helps you trust them. They take great care to make this product organic so you do not have all those extra fillers that other protein manufactures use like maltodextrin. They actually cooking their organic plants at lower temperatures so it does not denature the protein which would loose it’s potency. This is a great thing for us because it keeps the amino acid in it’s raw form and is more effective than others.
Also, to know, they do mention it is soy free, contains no tree nuts or dairy.
You need to decide on the amount of protein and calories you want for your meal replacement or snack. 1 scoop is 120 calories. 20g of protein. So, you obviously double that for 2 scoops. You can mix it with water, juice or milk. It tends to get thick so I would try 8oz first and see if that is going to be the right thickness for you to drink it. Add more liquid as needed.
Most people like to make a smoothie out of it so they combine a fruit like mango and use almond milk to give it a lot better taste. I would also throw in 3-4 frozen ice cubes as well.
Pros & Cons
The main advantages here is that this is all organic and produced with great care. You don’t have the junk fillers that other commercial protein makers put in there.
It has 4 flavors. You can buy it in vanilla, chocolate, unflavored and vanilla spiced chia.
I like the fact that you get your omega-3’s from flax seed and Chai sees. You also get the added probiotics for your digestive health to keep regular. A happy gut is a healthy body. 🙂
Well here is the kicker. Because this is a all organic, doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners, you will have to get used to the taste. This is the whole point of going organic by the way, so it’s not a bad thing. The best way I can describe it is that it will have a gritty texture to it and a small hit of grassy taste (earthy taste) to it if you are drinking this with plain water. This is why I suggest mixing this in with a smoothie.
You will get used to it though so just give it a chance, mix it in with milk or juice to help take the taste away.I like to get some frozen fruit in there or 3-4 icecubes as well. For me it just helps with drinking it versus it being warm.
It also mixes up really think. So, this is not something you want to let sit around and then drink it. You will be eating it with a spoon if you do that. 😉
People love this the product for it’s purity. They know they are getting a great meal replacement or protein supplement they can trust. One of the guys using it was funny. After he tried his first shake he felt like he was eating a raw food meal right out of the factory and just hated the taste. He gave it a go for 2 weeks but just could not get past the taste. You will see 2 or 3 reviews like this.
There are middle of the road reviews that didn’t like it the first time and eventually grew to like it. One wife really liked how well it helped her digestive system. She said the taste was just “ok” but she could tell when she didn’t take it. Her husband wouldn’t touch the thing. 🙂
Another comment I saw that was interesting that you should know about is a guy who really like it because it was all organic and had it good taste. He has a lot of food allergies so it was a perfect solution for him with no reactions.
Other folks also use this as a recovery drink after their workouts as well.
Lastly, you will just see people who love the taste of it, have lost weight using it as a meal replacement and just love it. To each their own ya know. You just have to see if this lines up with your own taste buds and goals.
So, overall garden of life organic meal is a great product. As a vegan or vegetarian it’s definitely an option for you to try and trust it fits in with your diet. You will have to find a mixture that gets paste the taste if you don’t initially like it but who knows until you try it.
